Microneedling with PRP for Skin Rejuvenation
What Is Microneedling with PRP?
Microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative skin treatment that combines controlled microneedling with the healing properties of your own blood-derived platelets.
During microneedling, very fine needles create tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body's natural healing response and encourages the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that help maintain the skin's firmness, smoothness, and youthful appearance.
PRP is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. After the blood is processed to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, the PRP is applied to the skin during the microneedling treatment. This combination is designed to support the skin's natural repair and regeneration process.
The result is a minimally invasive treatment that can gradually improve skin texture, tone, firmness, and overall appearance—using your body's own regenerative resources.
How Does Microneedling with PRP Work?
Microneedling and PRP work together to support the skin's natural healing and regenerative processes.
Microneedling creates thousands of tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body's natural repair response and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. As the skin heals, it can become smoother, firmer, and more even in texture.
At the same time, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), prepared from a small sample of your own blood, is applied to the treated skin. PRP contains a concentrated number of platelets and naturally occurring growth factors that may support tissue repair and regeneration.
By combining microneedling with PRP, we create a treatment that not only stimulates the skin's own healing response but also provides regenerative components from your own blood at the time of treatment.
The goal is natural-looking improvement in skin quality rather than simply covering imperfections.
Benefits of Microneedling with PRP
Microneedling with PRP is designed to improve the overall quality and appearance of the skin by stimulating the body's natural regenerative processes. Because the treatment works with your own tissue, improvements develop gradually and are designed to look natural.
Potential benefits include:
-
Improved skin texture — Helps create smoother, softer-looking skin.
-
Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles — Stimulates collagen production to improve skin firmness and texture.
-
Improved skin tone — Can help create a more even and refreshed appearance.
-
Reduced appearance of acne scars — Microneedling can help remodel the skin and improve the appearance of certain types of acne scarring.
-
Improved skin firmness and elasticity — New collagen formation can gradually improve the skin's structure.
-
Reduced appearance of enlarged pores — Skin remodeling may make pores appear less noticeable.
-
Improved appearance of sun-damaged and aging skin — The treatment can help refresh skin that has lost some of its youthful texture and tone.
-
Natural-looking rejuvenation — PRP is prepared from your own blood, making this a personalized regenerative approach to skin rejuvenation.
A Personalized Approach to Skin Rejuvenation
Every patient's skin is different. During your consultation, Dr. Marcovici can evaluate your skin and determine whether Microneedling with PRP is appropriate for your specific concerns and goals.
What to Expect During Your Treatment
Your Microneedling with PRP treatment begins with an evaluation of your skin and a discussion of your concerns and goals.
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and processed to prepare your Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). At the same time, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to make the procedure more comfortable.
Once the skin is prepared, the microneedling device uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. PRP is applied during the treatment to support the skin's natural healing and regenerative response.
The entire treatment—including numbing, PRP preparation, and microneedling—takes approximately 40 minutes.
Immediately afterward, your skin may appear red and feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn. These effects are temporary and generally improve in a few hours.
What Can You Expect After Treatment?
One of the advantages of Microneedling with PRP is that there is no significant downtime. Most patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately after treatment.
You may experience mild redness, warmth, or a slight sensitivity of the skin immediately after the procedure. These effects are temporary and typically resolve quickly.
Because the treatment stimulates your skin's natural regenerative processes, improvements develop gradually. Your skin may look refreshed shortly after treatment, while collagen remodeling and continued skin improvement occur over the following weeks.
There is no need to take time away from your normal activities, making Microneedling with PRP a convenient option for patients who want skin rejuvenation without surgery or significant downtime.
What Causes Premature Skin Aging?
Skin aging is a natural process, but factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and environmental stress can accelerate the breakdown of collagen and elastin.
As collagen and elastin production gradually decreases with age, the skin may lose some of its firmness, elasticity, and smooth texture. Fine lines, wrinkles, uneven texture, and a duller appearance can become more noticeable.
Microneedling with PRP is designed to support the skin's natural repair processes and stimulate collagen production, helping improve the overall quality and appearance of the skin.
When Will You See Results
and
How Many Treatments Are Recommended?
Microneedling with PRP stimulates the skin's natural regenerative processes, so results develop gradually rather than appearing overnight. Many patients notice an initial improvement in the overall appearance and texture of their skin, while collagen remodeling continues over the following weeks.
For best results, a series of three treatments is generally recommended, spaced approximately 3–4 weeks apart. The number and frequency of treatments may vary depending on your skin condition, treatment area, and individual goals.
After completing the initial series, maintenance treatments may be recommended to help preserve and enhance your results.
PRP for Dry Eyes
PRP can also be used as a regenerative treatment for patients experiencing dry eyes and ocular surface discomfort. Because PRP is prepared from the patient’s own blood, it contains naturally occurring growth factors and regenerative components that may support the healing and health of the ocular surface.
At our practice, we have treated patients with PRP for dry eyes and have received very positive patient feedback, particularly regarding comfort and improvement in their symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Microneedling with PRP painful?
A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to make the procedure more comfortable. Most patients tolerate Microneedling with PRP well and experience only mild sensations during the treatment.
How long does a Microneedling with PRP treatment take?
The complete treatment, including numbing, preparation of your PRP, and microneedling, takes approximately 40 minutes.
Is there any downtime after PRP Microneedling?
There is no significant downtime. Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Mild redness, warmth, or sensitivity may occur temporarily after the procedure.
How many PRP Microneedling treatments will I need?
For best results, a series of three treatments approximately 3–4 weeks apart is generally recommended. Your treatment plan may be adjusted according to your skin condition and individual goals.
When will I see results?
Some patients notice an early improvement in the appearance of their skin, but the regenerative effects develop gradually. As new collagen is produced, skin texture, firmness, and overall appearance can continue to improve over the following weeks.
Is PRP safe?
PRP is prepared from your own blood, which makes it a personalized regenerative treatment. As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and considerations, which will be discussed during your consultation.
Can PRP Help With Dry Eyes?
PRP may help support the health and regeneration of the ocular surface in patients experiencing dry-eye symptoms. Because PRP is prepared from the patient’s own blood, it contains growth factors and other regenerative components that may support tissue healing.
At our practice, PRP has been used for patients with dry eyes, and we have received very positive feedback from patients regarding improvement in their symptoms and overall eye comfort.
Because every patient is different, a consultation is recommended to determine whether PRP may be an appropriate option for your specific condition.
